Introduction

Performers:

Spartimu vocal ensemble

Programme:
religious and secular songs from Corsica

The tradition of male singing on Corsica is age-old. The songs of this island with its highly individual culture are usually performed by men who stand in a small circle. This allows the singers to sense one another, which enables them all to smoothly switch the role of lead singer and creates special ornamentals in the harmonies of the supporting ensemble. The multilayer scale of emotions, power of expression, and ritual repetitions all serve to create a unique and meditative musical experience. The six singers of this ensemble are promoters and teachers of traditional Corsican songs.
