Introduction

Performers:

Peedu Kass (double bass, electronics, artistic director)
Villu Talsi (mandolin)
Simone Minn (viola, vocals)

This unique ensemble brings together a mandolin, viola, and double bass—the soprano, alto, and bass of the group. Together, they create a blend of diverse musical backgrounds. The trio merges Peedu Kass’s jazz influences, Villu Talsi’s folk heritage, and Simone Minni’s original songs and traditional folk, resulting in fresh, compelling textures. Their setlist includes original compositions, contemporary arrangements of 16th and 17th-century English music, and reinterpretations of folk tunes.

The group is led by Peedu Kass, a multi-talented bassist known for pushing creative boundaries. His previous projects range from re-imagining Bach’s compositions and a double bass concerto for the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra to creating new works for prominent festivals such as Jazzkaar and Estonian Music Days. This latest project is his newest musical exploration, which he has performed both as a trio and as a quartet with cellist Theodor Sink. The trio was recently selected to perform at Womex, one of the world’s most prestigious world music showcase events.
