The ballet masterpiece “Don Quixote,” featuring choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Ludwig Minkus, is coming to Estonia in early next year. The ballet troupe of Lviv National Opera from Ukraine will perform the show based on Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s epic novel on February 8th at the Alexela Concert Hall and on February 10th at the Vanemuine Concert Hall.

The esteemed performers from the Lviv National Opera, known for their rich traditions, will bring to Estonia not only the world-famous classical choreography but also a lavish stage production and luxurious costumes. Lviv Opera’s classical ballet is renowned for its brilliant and emotional performances.

The novel “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha” by the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was published in the early 17th century and tells the story of a knight-idealistic who has created a fantasy world completely disconnected from reality. For Quixote, values such as honor, kindness, chivalry, and bravery are of utmost importance. The book is considered one of the greatest literary works of all time.

The ballet, based on the novel, with choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Austrian composer Ludwig Minkus, premiered in 1869. It is one of the most famous classical ballets in its genre, showcasing virtuoso dance, beautiful music, and the spirited joy of Spanish culture.

Tickets for the performances are available on Piletilevi.
